(By Mondale Smith)

One down and three more to go says Roger 'Young Bill Rogers' Hinds as he copped the 2012 National Health Song Competition Saturday last in Mackenzie. His second winning of the that National Aids Programme Secretariat competition in three years. His winning composition this years was  a song titled ' Health is important.'

On Saturday his competitive nature  will be in full force again as one of 18 taking aim at the Carib Soca Monarch in the semi Finals at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground. If he makes the cut  he will be in the finals ' Behind a Band' at the National park on February 18.  Bring out your rags and flags because I'm  gonna create a  mash fever inferno that's very infectious like the flu," he encourages all to come out to enjoy the nation's most major festival that unites all peoples.

As if that's not enough this Sales Clerk at the Payless  Variety store is also  sticking to his 20 years and running tradition of contesting the National Seniors Calypso Monarch title starting  February 11 against 18 others including Tennecia Defreitas the current Junior Calypso Monarch. If he makes the cut he will be in the finals carded for February 17.

"For those two competitions I'm excited because  this is my first shot at the Soca Monarch and  my 20th shot at the Calypso monarch..." the father of two said.  in his competitive cap he has the  Calypso Monarch 2008 as well as the 2009 HIV and Aids Song Competition feathers in his cap hence, he is by no means fearful of  clashing and is very optimistic that he can bring it for the two competitions.

Having represented Guyana at Two CARIFESTAs (2006 in TT and 2008 in Guyana ) the HIV/ Aids advocate  who's hit 'Put it on'  is still in major rotation on radio and  part of the national  war against Aids  Campaigns, he's also contesting for the Road march title as well. For the Calypso competition this year he's targeting the 'Soup drinkers,' a song that tell the story of which party has the best soup, political or otherwise... pun intended in social commentary style.     As a cultural Ambassador Rogers  has  represented  Guyana amongst a Caribbean  group of entertainers for six years. That Caribbean Vision group toured seven Caribbean Islands  engaging in Edu-Culture (Education and Culture combined) via drama and music. The group's  head was Kurt Allen the 2010 Trinidad and Tobago Calypso Monarch.

He sponsored by GTT, Gift Land office Max, F&H Printings, John Lewis Styles and PayLess Variety story as well as the National Library.
